Rechargeable Hearing Aids From The Top Hearing Aid Brands

All the Rechargeable hearing aids from all the big hearing aid manufacturers

Rechargeable Digital Hearing Aids 2020

Modern rechargeable hearing aids have proven hugely popular with hearing aid users. All of the big hearing aid brands have taken notice and they all have introduced them to their ranges. It seems like 2020 may be the year of rechargeable custom hearing aids. While many of the major brands have been working on rechargeable In The Ear hearing aids, there are some technical challenges. Starkey appears to have overcome those challenges and they are introducing the first ever lithium-ion powered rechargeable In The Ear hearing aid in February 2020. It will be interesting to see if other manufacturers follow suit. This article is dedicated to all of the rechargeable hearing aids offered by the big brands and will be updated as more new innovations come along.

Phonak was, of course, the first brand to introduce the modern range of lithium-ion powered rechargeable hearing aids but they were quickly followed by Signia. Originally, the rest of the brands went for silver-zinc powered rechargeable hearing aids powered by the Z-Power system. However, Starkey introduced a Lithium-Ion powered rechargeable hearing aid in 2018 as well as the Z-Power system powered device they introduced in 2017. With the introduction by Resound of the LiNX Quattro lithium-ion powered hearing devices in late 2018 it begun to look like every hearing aid brand would introduce Lithium-Ion powered rechargeables. There are pros and cons to both systems and you can read about them here. In the battle of rechargeable systems, lithium-ion won, mainly because the Z-Power systems were problematic.

The Latest Rechargeable Hearing Aids for 2020

The rechargeable hearing aids introduced in 2020 are as follows:

  1. Starkey Edge In The Ear (ITE): Lithium-ion powered rechargeable ITE hearing aid from Starkey
  2. Bernafon Viron miniRITE-R: Lithium-ion powered rechargeable RIC from Bernafon
  3. Unitron Moxi Jump R Discover: Lithium-ion powered rechargeable RIC from Unitron

  13. Resound LiNX Quattro Rechargeable: Lithium-ion powered rechargeable RIC from Resound

Two Types of Rechargeable Systems

There were two modern rechargeable hearing aid system types, each having their strengths and weaknesses. I keep saying modern because rechargeable hearing aids have been around for a long time. Of the so-called "Big 6 hearing aid manufacturers", Signia (the artist who was formerly called Siemens, a long-standing joke here) was the only brand with rechargeable hearing devices up until 2017.  They have been doing rechargeable hearing aids the longest.

However, before then, they based their rechargeable battery systems on nickel-metal hydride. The battery wasn't adequate for most people, and the charge often would not last through the day especially if you were using any audio streaming. All of those problems went away with the introduction of Lithium-Ion and Silver-Zinc rechargeable battery systems.

As I said, Signia was not the first to the market with Lithium-Ion; Phonak pipped them at the post with their "Audeo B-R" product line. The power pack design is similar though, with the battery lasting up to 30 hours on a charge and a lifespan of 3-4 years. This system does not allow the easy replacement of the power pack. The other hearing aid brands originally silver-zinc technology. The system looked really promising, it combined the best of both worlds, offering over thirty hours of use on one charge, and you could change the batteries to traditional hearing aid batteries if you forget to charge. However, there were so many problems with the Z-power system the hearing aid brands moved away from it.

The Future of Rechargeable Hearing Aids?

Lithium-Ion rechargeable devices are the future of rechargeable hearing aids. Even Widex who hung onto the Z-Power system for the longest is now rumoured to be introducing a lithium-ion device in 2020.

Why Should You Consider Rechargeable Hearing Aids?

There are many reasons why you should consider buying rechargeable hearing aids and I would like to set them out here. Generally, rechargeable hearing aid options are no more, or little more expensive than the models that use traditional hearing aid batteries, so the cost of adoption is negligible.

Ease of Use

Rechargeable hearing aids offer real ease of use to you, no fiddling around with little batteries every few days. The size of hearing aid batteries, and in fact hearing aids themselves, can be irritating and troubling to users, especially if they have eyesight or dexterity issues. Just removing the disposable battery from the packaging can be a mini-nightmare for some people, let alone opening the battery compartment and getting the damn battery in there!

So, if you have decreased dexterity or a condition that numb the fingertips, such as arthritis, diabetic neuropathy, and Parkinson’s disease well then, rechargeable hearing aids are most definitely for you. Rechargeable hearing aids are simply put into the charger at night, and in the morning they are ready for use. More than that, you don't need to remember to buy batteries, you don't need to remember to carry spares, you never run out and generally your battery won't let you down at the very worst moment.

Good For The World

Rechargeable batteries are far greener and better for the environment than disposable hearing aid batteries. Lithium-ion power packs need to be changed perhaps once every five to six years. During the same time span, you will need on average at least 520 disposable batteries. Disposable batteries that end up in landfills generally.

Generally Cost-Neutral

When you need to replace your rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, it will cost you on average perhaps £360. So basically, apart from utility costs (electricity), five year's worth of continued rechargeable bliss will cost you the equivalent of five years worth of disposable batteries. If you shop very carefully, you could possibly buy a five year's worth of disposable batteries for a little cheaper than that maybe. So the cost is probably relatively neutral. For those people who don't shop for their hearing aid batteries online, rechargeable batteries are probably a far cheaper option.

Rechargeable Hearing Aid Prices

We would expect rechargeable hearing aid ranges to be sold at prices from £800.00 to £2200.00 in the UK depending on the Practice and location. We would expect the range to be sold at prices from €1000.00 to €3000.00 in Ireland. We would expect the range to be sold at prices from $1000.00 to $3200.00 in the USA.

How Long Do Rechargeable Hearing Aids Last?

The hearing aids themselves should last for anything up to seven to ten years, the batteries are a slightly different thing. Li-ion batteries are sealed within the hearing aid and are usually removable only by the hearing aid manufacturer. They are said to last between 4 to 5 years and will then need to be replaced. However, Signia has released a smaller Li-ion device called the Pure ChargeNGo and they are advising people that the smaller cell may need to be changed every three to four years. The batteries will continue to function after the replacement period, they just might not deliver a full day's worth of use any longer.

Resound introduced the LiNX Quattro in late 2018 with a whopping thirty hours of battery life even when streaming. The devices are powered by Lithium-ion and Resound has been very clever with its recharger case design. It offers several days of charge on the go. With that type of battery life, I would imagine that the replacement of the cell will probably not be an issue for many years.

Starkey Edge AI

A Rechargeable In The Ear Hearing Aid

Since lithium-ion rechargeable hearing aids exploded onto the scene in 2016 many people have wondered if the technology would transfer to In The Ear (ITE) hearing aids. While thee have been plenty of rumours about the different hearing aid brands working on the devices, up to now, we haven't seen any introduced. In February 2020, that will all change with the introduction of the new Starkey Edge AI range. For the first time, we will have a lithium-ion powered rechargeable ITE.

Starkey rechargeable in the ear hearing aids

In The Canal?

Judging by the images I have seen, the device is probably a half-shell device. I think that is going to depend on the size of the ear canal and ear. It looks like a dual-mic custom device with a push button. The faceplate seems to be raised in the middle with what I would assume are charging contacts. While the image shows a black device, I would imagine it will be available in the more traditional colours as well.

Made For iPhone, Made For Android

The devices are Bluetooth enabled and will offer a direct connection to both iPhones and some Android 10 phones. That means direct audio streaming and call audio from those phones without any intermediary streamers.

Lithium-ion Powered

Making a custom hearing aid rechargeable has been technically difficult, the main issue has really how are you going to charge it. Obviously, Starkey has solved the issue and this will be the first-ever lithium-ion powered custom hearing aid. They say the lithium-ion cell will give you 23 hours of battery life between charges.

Blurring The Lines

Starkey has been blurring the lines between Hearables and Hearing Aids for a while now. The introduction of the lithium-ion powered Bluetooth ITE (In The Ear) device certainly does that. In fact, I think it is the first device from the hearing aid industry that can be firmly called a Hearable.

Philips Hearlink Rechargeable Receiver in Ear Models

Hearlink is the name of the new hearing aid range from Philips. The Hearlink range will be available with one lithium-ion powered rechargeable hearing aid. The range is Made For iPhone and the rechargeable device will be able to directly connect to Apple products.

Five Technology Levels

The range will be available in five technology levels which is not unlike the Bernafon set up. The top three levels will have the premium features available in differing parameters. The bottom two technology levels use the same chipset but will have more basic features. The features themselves are interesting.

Key Philips Features

They say that their new entry into the hearing aid market uses two key technologies - SoundMap and SoundTie. SoundMapis the management system of the devices and creates the sound of Philips HearLink. It amplifies voices and makes them clearer in difficult environments by reducing the noise. It also ensures that the sound details are audible. SoundTie is the name of the connection technology they are using, it connects Philips HearLink hearing devices and their users to the outside world. It makes activities like watching TV easier and more enjoyable. SoundTie also provides intelligent interaction with smartphones and helps HearLink users stay connected with distant friends and family.

Bernafon Rechargeable Hearing Aids

Bernafon has just introduced a completely new range of hearing aids called the Viron. As part of this launch, they have also introduced a brand new lithium-ion powered rechargeable hearing aid. Bernafon is a sister company to Oticon (both are owned by Demant) and they share the same hardware. So the Bernafon Viron rechargeable looks very similar to the offering from Oticon. However, what they do with that hardware is very different, they use dramatically different strategies to deliver the sound that you need.

Resound Rechargeable Digital Hearing Aids

Resound introduced a new rechargeable hearing aid, the Linx Quatro in 2018 (13/08/2018). They say that the Lithium-ion powered hearing aid will have the best battery life in the industry. The stats they released look really good and so do the devices. There really seems to have been some joined-up thinking in the design and it is obvious that they have utilised the knowledge gained from their sister company Jabra with rechargeable headsets and earphones. The choice of Lithium-ion confirmed the bias for the system, as most manufacturers seem to be working on their own versions. Resound first introduced their rechargeable hearing aids in August 2017 and initially, they used the Z Power Silver-Zinc battery technology.

Resound

LiNX Quattro LT61

As we reported on our blog, Resound announced the launch of a new premium plus hearing aid called the Linx Quattro. They originally said that the Quattro will be a premium device and they won't replace the Linx 3D 9, 7 and 5, they will sit above them. However, they have now introduced a full range of models including In The Ear hearing aids on the Quattro platform in a 9, 7 and 5 technology level. The only thing missing is Behind The Ear hearing aids.

LiNX Quattro LT61 Prices

  • UK: From £1700.00 to £2200.00
  • Ireland: From €2400.00 to €3000.00
  • USA: From $2500.00 to $3200.00

Resound Quattro hearing aids in charger

This is what we know so far:

  • The rechargeable devices are now available in three new technology level
  • The rechargeable devices are Receiver In Canal devices
  • The devices are Bluetooth hearing aids
  • The devices use a brand new chip platform
  • The chip has 100% faster processing than 3D
  • The chip has 100% additional memory over the 3D
  • Resound are using a new way of handling directionality inputs
  • They have introduced a redesigned wireless radio with extra signal strength
  • They have extended the bandwidth of the devices giving extra high-frequencies
  • They have increased their dynamic input range, calling it industry-leading
  • The rechargeable hearing device will deliver 24 hours of use with 50% streaming on a three-hour charge
  • The Lithium-ion devices will deliver 30 hours of use without streaming on a three-hour charge

Longest Battery Life in The Industry

The devices will have the longest battery life in the industry, even though they are very discreet. Just one three hour charge will give up to twenty-four hours use even if you are streaming for half the time. That's pretty amazing battery life even for a rechargeable. As I said, they are pretty discreet and a lot of thought has gone into the design of both the devices and the charger. The charger acts as a carry case and it holds its own charge so that you can charge on the go if you need to. The charger will hold an extra three days of charge but it is small, so it is easy to put in a coat pocket but very functional. There is an auto on and off function and LEDs that allow you to see at a glance what the charge status is.

Made For iPhone Hearing Aid

The Linx Quattro is a direct connection or Made For iPhone hearing aid just like all the Linx devices before it. Resound have redesigned the wireless radio though and they say that it is more powerful than ever before. That should translate into pretty stable connection to the iPhone.

Made For Android

The Quattro will also be the first-ever Made For Android hearing aid. ReSound have signed an agreement with Google to bring the Made For Android standard to market and the Quattro will be the first and only device to work with that standard. It means direct connection to Google Pixel 3 Android phones and Samsung Galaxy S10 phones, other phone brands are expected to roll out the system in 2020.

Resound

LiNX 3D LT61 DRWZ

Resound LiNX 3D rechargeable Hearing Aid

The rechargeable addition to the LiNX 3D range was a completely new form factor and is similar in size if a little different from their existing LT61. The device is officially designated the LT61-DRWZ and it runs on a 312 rechargeable battery which is supplied by Z Power as is the recharging cradle technology. The price of the device was similar to the LiNX 3D prices. Unfortunately, Resound had pretty much the same problems with the Z-Power system as everyone else and many were not reliable.

LiNX 3D LT61 DRWZ Prices

  • UK: From £1400.00 to £2200.00
  • Ireland: From €1200.00 to €2400.00
  • USA: From $1400.00 to $3000.00

Oticon Rechargeable Digital Hearing Aids

Oticon was a little late to the party with their Rechargeable hearing aids offer. In an announcement reported here in April 2017, Oticon announced the expansion of the models on the Opn range . That expansion also included a brand new rechargeable model. Oticon went down the route of the Z-Power silver-zinc technology originally. Although the hearing aids were announced in April 2017, they were not available in the UK and Ireland until November 2017. They pretty much had the same issues with the Z-Power system as other brands had.  In March 2019 Oticon announced the release of their new Opn S platform which is their latest premium device. As part of this launch, Oticon introduced a lithium-ion powered rechargeable device.

Phonak Rechargeable Digital Hearing Aids

Phonak led the charge of modern rechargeable hearing aids with the introduction of their first-ever Audeo (Receiver In Canal) Belong rechargeable hearing aids. The devices quickly proved hugely popular with hearing aid users and professionals. They quickly expanded their rechargeable hearing aids range to include two Behind The Ear hearing aids on the Belong range. With the introduction of their new Marvel Made For Any Phone platform it appears that they have re-committed themselves to lithium-ion as a power source.

Phonak

Bolero Marvel Range

The Bolero Marvel range is the latest range of Behind The Ear hearing aids from Phonak. It consists of just two hearing aid models, one of which is rechargeable, which is a little strange. Both devices really only cover hearing losses up to moderate to severe. Phonak would usually introduce a larger range of Bolero devices including a device that would cover severe to profound hearing loss. This time, they haven't, I think that means that we will see the Naida Marvel range of hearing aids introduced soon.

Bolero Marvel Hearing Aid Prices

We would expect the Bolero Marvel range to be sold at prices from £800.00 to £2200.00 in the UK depending on the Practice and location. We would expect the range to be sold at prices from €1000.00 to €3000.00 in Ireland. We would expect the range to be sold at prices from $1000.00 to $3200.00 in the USA.

Bolero Marvel PR

Bolero Marvel PR with slim tube fitted

The Bolero Marvel PR is slightly larger than the M, but it is still relatively discrete. It uses the same multi-functional button as the smaller M. The PR is a  lithium-ion powered rechargeable hearing aid can be fitted with a slim tube (which you can see above) or an ear hook for traditional tubing and ear mould. The PR will cover hearing losses down to 80 dB in the low to 100 dB in the high frequencies. That, of course, depends on configuration, with the slim tube fitted, that reduces to 70 in the low and 90 dB in the high frequencies.

The PR has all of the features of the Marvel platform with a direct connection to any Bluetooth mobile phones and  Roger devices. It also has a telecoil onboard so it can be used to connect to a Loop System. Phonak say that you will get a full day of use out of one charge and use time is similar to the Audeo. The device will be available in the four levels of technology, the 90, the 70, the 50 and the 30

Phonak

Audeo Marvel Rechargeable Hearing Aids

Phonak Audeo Marvel

Rechargeable Made For Any Phone Hearing Aids

Phonak introduced the new Marvel platform to the world at EUHA 2018 and it has proven to be an amazingly popular hearing aid range. The Audeo Marvel platform has not one, but two rechargeable models. A Lithium-Ion rechargeable RIC and a Lithium-Ion rechargeable RIC with a telecoil. The Marvel isn't just a Made For iPhone, it is a Made For Any Phone hearing aid. It is a true Bluetooth hearing aid in all that the concept is. Initially, the new Marvel range was available in the Audeo type which is Phonak's Receiver In Canal style of hearing aids. However, they have expanded the range as time passes.

We would expect the Audeo Marvel range to be sold at prices from £800.00 to £2200.00 in the UK depending on the Practice and location. The device will connect directly to any Bluetooth enabled Mobile phone and will stream phone calls and audio in stereo. For the first time, Phonak will make the rechargeable device available across all levels of technology. So you will be able to purchase a rechargeable device on the 30 level of tech.

Four Levels of Technology

For the first time, Phonak rechargeable hearing aids will be available in four levels of technology, so that means there will be a rechargeable device even in the entry level.

While Phonak had introduced the concept of Made For Any Phone with the Audeo B-Direct, that device was a compromise. It connected to phones but only allowed you to hear the call in one ear. It also didn't stream audio from your phone. The Marvel hearing device is a hugely multi-functional and feature-rich hearing aid which streams audio to both ears. There is actually a huge amount to talk about with the Marvel platform, almost so much that you wonder where to start. The Marvel contains probably every single one of the current headline features in the hearing aid world, and they have even thrown in some new ones, here’s the quick list:

  • Stereo Bluetooth streaming: Stereo streaming from any Bluetooth enabled device, that means iPhone, iPad, laptops, computers, Macs, Android phones, Windows phones, hell any Bluetooth-enabled phone.
  • Real Hands-free calling in stereo: Like the Audeo B-direct, the Marvel offers true hands-free calling from Bluetooth-enabled phones and VOIP services like Skype, except, to both hearing aids.
  • TV Streaming: Marvel can stream directly from Bluetooth-enabled TVs, and can also stream from the Phonak TV Connector accessory.
  • Rechargeability: They say both Marvel rechargeables will deliver a full day of hearing aid use from a single charge.
  • Remote adjustments: Marvel hearing aids can be adjusted remotely by your hearing expert.
  • New App Eco-System: Brand new apps to make life easier and engage the consumer in the process.
  • RogerDirect: This is really fascinating, for the first time, users will be able to stream from Roger devices directly to their hearing aids.
  • Full Phonak Feature Set: Unlike the Audeo B-direct, the Marvel devices will not be hobbled, they will offer full and up to date inter-ear features.

Battery Life

The following battery life time is defined as 16 hours usage per day and consists of
·   8 hours AutoSense OS 3.0 and Binaural VoiceStream Technology
·   4 hours Bluetooth streaming, phone call (HFP) and media (A2DP)
·   4 hours TV usage with TV Connector (AirStream Technology)"

Hearing aid Audéo M-R Audéo M-312/T  Audéo M-13T
Battery life time 1 day / >16 hours  60 hours 100 hours

As you can see from the table, you will get a lot of streaming and still have a full days's use from the rechargeable.

You can read our article on the introduction of the devices which gives a decent rundown on the new Phonak Marvel here

Emergency Power Pack

One innovation over and above everyone else that Phonak introduced with their early rechargeable systems was an additional "Power Pack" that can be attached to your charger. This device can be used when you don't have access to a plug. The power pack is re-useable and can provide up to seven additional charges of your hearing aids. In essence, it is a week's supply of power.

Audeo BelongAs I said, the Audeo Belong hearing device range was the first of the Lithium-ion devices to be released. It is also the first Phonak hearing device range with a rechargeable option. However, Phonak offered the option as part of their new range of Belong hearing aids which came with an upgraded operating system, the latest version of Phonak's SoundRecover2 and new microphones and programme buttons. It wasn't introduced as a stand-alone product like the Cellion with Signia.

The range uses the existing Venture chipset and is available in four technology levels, the 90, the 70, the 50 and the 30. The rechargeable option is not available in the lowest 30 level of technology which means that if you want to get this amazingly popular device you will have to move up to the 50 level at the least.

Audeo Belong Rechargeable Prices

We would expect the Audeo Belong Rechargeable hearing aid range to be sold at prices from £1100.00 to £2200.00 in the UK depending on the Practice and location. We would expect the range to be sold at prices from €1400.00 to €3000.00 in Ireland. We would expect the range to be sold at prices from $1500.00 to $3200.00 in the USA.

  • 24 hours continuous use with up to 5 hours streaming

Bolero BelongPhonak launched its new Bolero Belong platform of BTE hearing aids, including the anticipated lithium-ion rechargeable Bolero B-PR. It is the first Lithium-ion rechargeable BTE to the market and the first Phonak BTE hearing device range with a rechargeable option. They say that it will deliver 24 hours of hearing with one simple charge (expected results when fully charged, and up to 80 minutes wireless streaming time).

For the first time ever there will be a Lithium-Ion rechargeable Super Power hearing aid for people with severe to profound hearing loss on their famous Naida range.

This is the 5th generation of Phonak's Naida device and the core features of it will be in line with the rest of the Belong range. The Naide Belong R is a Receiver In Canal device and it is suitable for severe hearing losses.

Three Levels of technology

The rechargeable Naida will only be available in the top three levels of technology, the 90, 70 and 50.

What are the key features

  • Rechargeable lithium-ion power cell
  • Telecoil
  • 24 hours continuous use with up to 5 hours streaming
  • Easy charging

Phonak Rechargeable CROS B

Phonak have also introduced a rechargeable CROS device as an addition to their CROS B range. I really like this idea, CROS devices can be a little bit power-hungry, so introducing a rechargeable CROS device is a great idea. The fact that the rechargeable power pack is Lithium-Ion means that there will be plenty of power to run the devices. The introduction of the Belong CROS means that people with single-sided or asymmetrical hearing loss can now avail of the latest Phonak hearing aids.

Signia Rechargeable Digital Hearing Aids

Signia formerly Siemens, were quick to follow Phonak with their new type of rechargeable hearing aids. They also offered a Lithium-Ion powered version, however, unlike Phonak, they did not seal theirs in the hearing aid. That meant that when it comes time to change the power pack, it could be done locally in your hearing care professionals office. In 2018, Signia introduced a new hearing aid platform called the Nx. As part of this launch, they also introduced a new hearing aid called the Pure Charge N Go and the Motion Charge N Go. They then introduced an interesting new rechargeable hearing aid called the Styletto which represents a completely new type of hearing device model, a model they cal a Slim RIC. In March 2019, they released an upgraded Styletto called the Styletto Connect which is a Bluetooth hearing aid. Their latest hearing aid platform was released in October 2019, it is called the Xperience range and it also has a Pure Charge&Go available.

The platform has several new features which many are excited about already. I myself have tried the Signia Pure 312 7 Xperience and I was very impressed with the devices, their new Own Voice Processing feature and the new access to sounds all around me. These are the first hearing aids to use Motion sensors to change how sound is presented.

Pure Charge&Go X

Signia Pure X Charge&Go

The Pure Charge&Go X was available from November 2019, it is a lithium-ion powered rechargeable RIC with Bluetooth connectivity. Signia say that the devices have 20% more charging capacity and are 16% smaller than the previous Pure Charge&Go Nx. It adds up to a svelte and discrete device that offers better battery life even with streaming. Signia have introduced a new inductive charger with a lid to protect the hearing aids as they charge, something that many people had complained about. The charger also works as a dehumidifier and is designed to fit custom ear molds.

Signia

Styletto Connect

Styletto Connect Hearing Aids

The Styletto Connect hearing aid is a discreet device that offers coverage for mild to moderate hearing losses. It is an attractive if different design and reminds you of high-end electronics as opposed to traditional hearing aids. The charger case is outstanding and it delivers four extra charges for the devices which means you can go away for a long weekend and forget your plug.

Like the original, the receiver is fixed in the hearing aid and can not be replaced in the clinic, it will have to be a factory repair job. That means that you will need to take care of it to ensure it doesn't fail. Generally, people do not take care of their receivers, we see them failing all of the time through user negligence. They get full of wax and moisture and die.

Three Levels of Tech

The new model will be available across the three usual levels of Signia tech, the 7, the 5 and the 3. If we hear anything else, we will update the page.

Styletto Connect Hearing Aid Prices

We would expect the Styletto Connect hearing aid range to be sold at prices from £1400.00 to £2200.00  in the UK depending on the Practice and location. We would expect the range to be sold at prices from €1800.00 to €3000.00  in Ireland. We would expect the range to be sold at prices from $1900.00 to $3200.00  in the USA.

The Relevant Power Facts

Signia say that Styletto Connect's high-capacity power cell will allow for enhanced Bluetooth connectivity. This will enable users to enjoy high-quality, long-lasting stereo streaming of TV audio, music, and phone calls directly to both hearing aids.

They say that you will be able to stream up to five hours per day and still benefit from 16 hours of battery life before needing to recharge. That's pretty good streaming time and battery life. So for a quick overview:

  • Up to 16 hours of battery life with 5 hours of streaming
  • Just 3 hours to fully charged
  • 30 mins of charging gives 6 hours of use
  • Easy wireless charging, drop them in the charger and voila
  • Made For iPhone, Direct connection to iPhone
  • High-quality audio streaming
  • Ultra HD e2e and Bluetooth connectivity

Motion Charge N Go Nx

Signia Motion Gharge N Go Hearing aids

The Motion hearing aid is a very versatile device that offers coverage for mild, moderate and severe hearing losses. It can be fitted with a thin tube and instant tip, which you can see above, or a traditional ear hook, tube and ear mould. It means that people who like BTEs now have a rechargeable option.

Pure Charge N Go Nx

Signia Pure Charge & Go

This device is a very svelte Pure (RIC) device which is powered by a Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery pack, again it offers the new system which separately processes the wearer’s own voice. The hearing aid has a rocker switch which allows programme changes and volume changes. It is IP68 rated. It can also be fitted with the four levels of receiver making it suitable for most hearing losses. It comes with superior connectivity with direct streaming and the myControl App. It also has access to the full live remote support via TeleCare 3.0. The device is available in three levels of technology.

Cellion Hearing Aids

Cellion Primax Facelift

As I said Signia quickly followed Phonak with the Cellion™ primax™ hearing aids. In fact, they have just given the Cellion a facelift and the new models should be available soon. The devices and the charger have been designed to be smart, they turn off when dropped into the charger and turn on automatically when they are taken out again. The charger will also de-humidify the hearing aids during the cycle. Signia say that the rechargeable lithium-ion power cell lasts 24 hours straight without charging with unlimited audio streaming.

The Cellion is a Receiver in Canal hearing aid and it can be used with a variety of receivers which will allow them to cover hearing losses from mild to profound. Signia have three levels of technology and the devices are available at all levels of technology. The devices are also rated to ip68 which is for all intent and purpose almost waterproof. Again, I would expect Signia to offer Lithium-ion powered BTE devices this year as well.

Cellion Rechargeable Hearing Aid Prices

We would expect the Cellion hearing aid range to be sold at prices from £1400.00 to £2200.00 in the UK depending on the Practice and location. We would expect the range to be sold at prices from €1800.00 to €3000.00 in Ireland. We would expect the range to be sold at prices from $1900.00 to $3200.00 in the USA.

Starkey Rechargeable Digital Hearing Aids

Starkey originally went for Z Power for their rechargeable hearing aids, although they have been doing some research into wireless charging of hearing aids. In 2018 Starkey announced at their annual Expo conference that they would be introducing a brand new rechargeable hearing aid system to their range in February 2018. The hearing aids were called the Muse IQr and they were a Lithium-Ion powered rechargeable hearing aid system.

Starkey

Muse™ micro RIC 312t R

Zpower charged Muse hearing aids

The Muse™ micro RIC 312t R is just one of the styles available on Starkey’s® “made for music” hearing aid platform. The rechargeable offering is not a Lithium-ion device and nor is the power pack integrated. The power pack is actually ZPower’s innovative silver-zinc battery technology. Which is used with their charger to give at the very least 24 hours of use. Going with this option will allow Starkey customers to switch to normal disposable batteries if they are caught out. From what we can see the Muse micro RIC 312t R will be available in the full three levels of technology.

What are the key features

  • Rechargeable silver-zinc power cell
  • 24 hours continuous use,  no word on streaming yet
  • Available in all levels of tech
  • Easy to replace battery pack
  • User can use disposable batteries if needed

Starkey

Muse™ iQR

Muse iQR

The Muse iQR hearing aids are built on their latest Synergy® platform and Acuity™ OS operating system. The devices are Lithium-Ion powered and offer 30 hours of use with streaming, full-day charging in less than three hours, a portable charging case for rapid 15-minute and “weekend” charges, and a telecoil.

20% Longer

Starkey says that their new Lithium-Ion system will provide 20% more power than any of their competitors. They have said that you will get over thirty hours of use with streaming. Obviously, you aren't going to use it for thirty hours straight, unless of course, you work with my business partner Steve Claridge (Steve The SlaveDriver Claridge!). The thing is though, it means that no matter how much you stream audio, on the phone, listening to music or watching the TV, you simply won't run out of juice.

Smallest Ever Rechargeable

The bragging rights up to now have been Unitron's, however, Starkey says that their new rechargeable is 30% smaller than any of their competitors. Considering that is combined with so much power, that's quite a feat.

Unitron Rechargeable Digital Hearing Aids

Unitron quickly followed their stablemate Phonak (both owned by Sonova) with their own rechargeable hearing aids. However, unlike Phonak, they originally used the Z Powered Silver-Zinc option.  They introduced both a Receiver In Canal rechargeable option and a Behind The Ear Option on the Tempus range but they had similar problems as the rest of the hearing aid brands. They have most recently introduced a new lithium-ion rechargeable hearing aids on their brand new Discover platform.

  • Stereo Bluetooth streaming: Stereo streaming from any Bluetooth enabled device, that means iPhone, iPad, laptops, computers, Macs, Android phones, Windows phones, any Bluetooth-enabled phone.
  • Real Hands-free calling in stereo: Like the Moxi All, the Moxi Jump R offers true hands-free calling from Bluetooth-enabled phones and VOIP services like Skype, except, to both hearing aids.
  • TV Streaming: Moxi Jump R can stream directly from Bluetooth-enabled TVs, and can also stream from the Unitron TV Connector accessory.
  • Rechargeability: They say the Moxi Jump R will deliver a full day of hearing aid use from a single charge.

Made For Any Phone

The device is a Made For Any Phone hearing aids which will mean a seamless stereo connection to any Bluetooth enabled cell phone or sound source. You will be able to take calls just by pressing a button on the hearing aid.

Four Levels of Technology

The new rechargeables are available in four levels of technology, the 9, the 7, the 5 and the 3.

The Moxi Jump R

The Moxi Jump R  is powered by a lithium-ion rechargeable battery and it offers a multi-functional push button for volume and programme changes among other things. As with the Fit, the pushbuttons can also be used to answer or end a phone call. The Moxi Jump R can use four power levels of receiver, so that means it will cover hearing losses from mild, to severe to profound. There is no telecoil on the Jump R either. The device should deliver a full day of use with one three hour charge even with up to eight hours of streaming.

Made For Any Phone

The device is a Made For Any Phone hearing aids which will mean a seamless stereo connection to any Bluetooth enabled cell phone or sound source. I would assume you will be able to take calls just by pressing a button on the hearing aid.

Unitron Moxi Jump R 9 hearing aid

Stride P R

The Stride P R is a lithium-ion rechargeable BTE (behind-the-ear). Unitron says that the devices will offer a full-day hearing (including streaming), a convenient recharging power pack, and quick charging. The Stride PR will also offer that hands-free phone experience and video calls, phone and stereo media audio streamed to both ears (made for all phones). I expect it to cover losses down to severe in nature.

Unitron Stride P R

Moxi Jump R with telecoil

The Jump R with Telecoil is basically the lithium-ion powered Jump with a telecoil added. So you are looking at all the benefits of Moxi Jump R, plus access to hearing loop systems. I know many loop advocates in the US will be very happy with that.

Widex Rechargeable Digital Hearing Aids

Widex were practically the last to the party with rechargeable hearing aids. They have been working on Fuel Cell technology for many years and when they make that breakthrough, it will change the powering of hearing aids forever. I say without hesitation that fuel cell technology will be a paradigm shift and I really hope Widex crack it. For now, they have introduced a Z Power system for their popular Beyond and Evoke hearing aids. They like others have had many problems with the system and it is rumoured that they are finally introducing lithium-ion rechargeable hearing aids in 2020

Beyond Z rechargeable hearing aidsWidex introduces Rechargeable Beyond Z RIC

Widex originally announced the launch of a rechargeable version of their popular Beyond Made For iPhone hearing aids. The device was powered by the Z Power system. The new rechargeable Beyond was named the Beyond Z. When they introduced the Evoke platform, they stayed with Z-Power for their rechargeable Evoke Fusion 2.

  • Rechargeable silver-zinc power cell
  • 24 hours continuous use
  • Available in all levels of tech
  • Easy to replace battery pack
  • User can use disposable batteries if needed
